This week in class we focused more on our projects by preparing
for what we will have to do in order not to get our videos taken down.
Therefore, we focused heavily on how to reuse other peoples work in a way to
add on or to alter in a creative fashion. We talked about how in the music industry
many popular artists copy of some at some point in their career. This was
intriguing to me because I always noticed that but didn’t really think much of
it at all. It shows us that the music industry isn’t organic but just a bunch
of people copying off each other to make more money than the other.
We then focused on the RIP movie and how people are getting in
trouble for using other peoples work for different things. These activities
range from downloading a movie to using a famous musician’s song in the background
of a video. It was shown that creativity has come to a stand still as many
people aren’t able to alter other peoples works. Even today, I have seen many
youtube videos get taken down due to copy right strikes and even if only a
small portion of a song or outside video is used. My understanding is that
people don’t want other people to make money of their own hard work which is
something I completely understand. However, this limits the improvements and
also the opportunities for someone to add extra creativity to the work at hand.
It is always interesting when you here a new sample or remix for the first time. Even better when it turns out even better than the original. For example the Travis Scott Swang remix we talked about in class.
ReplyDeleteMiros,
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed reading your blog. You gave great insight to our new class project. I too thought it was interesting how music artists copy others at some point in their careers. Copyright issues is a very tricky business. I find it interesting how many people take copyright laws very seriously. I too think remixing content adds creativity and improvements to its original content. Keep up the good work.
